Germany Records 112K Covid Cases a Day, Highest Since Pandemic

daajis.com:- Germany reported more than 112,000 cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. The number is the country's highest recorded Covid-19 case since the country's pandemic.

Public health agency Robert Koch Institute recorded 112,323 cases of Covid-19 with 239 deaths.

The agency also added that the weekly infection rate stood at 584.4 new cases per 100,000 people over seven days.

As a result of this increase, Germany has further tightened restrictions to reduce transmission. The country restricts access to bars and restaurants by only allowing those who have been vaccinated against the third (booster) dose or who have recovered from Covid-19.

The Omicron variant is said to be the largest contributor to Covid-19 cases in the country. With more than 70 percent of new infections due to variant B.1.1.529.

Apart from Germany, other European countries are also battling a spike in cases due to this variant. France recently reported around 300,000 daily cases in its country.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz continues to promote mandatory vaccination for its citizens. It is reported that 60 million Germans have been fully vaccinated.

However, the country where the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine was first developed reports that it has developed resistance to the vaccine in its citizens.

Hundreds or even thousands of residents staged demonstrations related to the government's health strategy.

Even so, Scholz insisted that vaccinations are still needed to boost immunity.
